Far off the eastern coast of Milan lies the western edge of Phearania. Despite rocky past relationships between these two powerful nations, great strides have been made by the new political leaders of both countries. Few can deny the benefits of their newly formed relationship and fewer still wish to return to state of war, though old rivalries die hard. Phearania's vast territories are wrought with valuable metals and modern advances in genetic engineering have allowed them to become agriculturally self-sustaining.

Historically, Phearania has always been a strongly socialist nation, ensuring housing, food, and basic education to every last one of its citizens. But no longer dependent on foreign nations for food, Phearania has expanded its social welfare net to include a payed college education to any citizen of sufficient dedication. With this, Phearania is hoping to do away with old stereotypes and compete with the world in scientific and technological advances.

Phearania's people are oft very nationalistic. Sociologists cite many causes, ranging from a strong sense of dependency due to the nature of a socialist nation to the educational systems propensity towards fudging information. In addition, it has served as a haven to many refugees, many whom feel indebted to their new home.

Though most Phearanians are loyal to their country, it is not without its detractors. While there are many advantages to a social welfare state, the cost is that personal success can be much harder to obtain. With tax rates that restrict upward mobility, some leave Phearania in hopes to find a better living in a more capitalistic country.
